10 Jul 1917: appointed to take charge of 2 Assistant Paymasters and 7 Writers at Haslar Naval Camp, Gosport
22 Aug 1917: Mr Williams writes that he has had conveyed to him through the Commanding Officer at Portsmouth the appreciation of the Lords of the Admiralty for his conduct on the occasion of the sinking of HMS Hilary
04 Dec 1917: promoted to Paymaster appointed to HMS Princess Margaret
Jan 1919: died at Leith from pneumonia after a trip with 3rd Light Cruiser Squadron
