Sep 1915: left for France
Dec 1916: came home on leave the first time for 16 months, during which time his Battalion were engaged frequently in severe fighting. He is one of the 24 left of the original Unit, and since he has been with them the Battalion has used up nearly 8000 men. Williams has taken part in seven separate attacks.
Nov 1917: returned to train for Commission
May 1918: gazetted 2nd Lieutenant
Aug 1918: joined the Royal Air Force (in England)
