16 Aug 1917: letter from Mrs Swallow saying he has arrived in France and is at the Machine Gun Corps Base

24 Dec 1917: sent home from France to train for a Commission. Going to training [?]Ripon
14 Jan 1918: attached to E Company Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regiment, 5th Battalion at North camp, Ripon
Apr 1918: now at Newmarket
11 Jul 1918: still at Newmarket. Will complete Cadet Course at end of August
11 Sep 1918: called here. Passed out of Cadet School 10/9/18 to join 3rd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers at Thistle Bridge Camp, Withernsea on 25 March
31 Oct 1918: went to France
11 Nov 1918: reported wounded - no particulars
