George Herbert Stampe

History while in the forces

02 Mar 1917: Mr Stampe joined the Public School Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment, and was quickly promoted to Sergeant, then Quartermaster Sergeant. He was given a Commission of a few months after joining, and now (31 Jan 1917) he holds the rank of Captain.
1918: promoted Major 2nd in Command
27 Mar 1918: Major Stampe was killed at 5.20pm instantaneously whilst tending a gun team. The place was at the western side of the road leading from Beaucourt to Folie and close to Formes 18 miles S.E. of Amiens.
