History while in the forces
Mar 1916-Jun 1916: enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery. Trained at Cosham, Hampshire and WoolwichJul 1916-Feb 1919: Ordered to France, where he saw much active service. He was present at the battles of Albert, Messines, Nieuwpoort, Passchendaele, Wassigny and finished the march to the Rhine.
