History while in the forces

Old territorial and as a member of Mersey Defence Force was called up about 31 July 1914. Afterwards he went with his Regiment to Kent where they formed part of the Forces for the defence of London. In Feb 1915 went to Flanders, near Ypres and was in the fighting round Hill 60. While here he was made Bomb Sergeant. In the summer the Regiment moved south and he was made Sergeant of the Scouts. He was killed out scouting near Vaux, on the Somme, 25th Sept 1915. Killed in action.
