History while in the forces

Aug 1914: joined the Forces immediately on the outbreak of the War, and held the rank of Staff-Sergeant in the Royal Army Medical Corps
10 Jun 1915: received his Commission as 2nd Lieutenant, being attached to the 13th Worcestershire Regiment as Assistant Adjutant. After a period of Home Service was sent to France. Was severely shaken owing to the explosion of a shell at close quarters, and invalided home suffering from shell-shock
13 Mar 1916: transferred to Machine Gun Corps
Jan 1918: gazetted out of the Army owing to ill-health
12 Dec 1918: in delicate health but improving
