16 Jan 1917: re-examined medically and classed "B1". Thereupon he immediately joined the Royal Naval Air Service as Aircraftsman 2nd class
09 Jan 1918: now promoted Aircraftsman 1st class
Feb 1918: taken ill and sent to Billingham Royal Naval Hospital
