02 Feb 1917: Mr Marcroft is with the Regiment somewhere in France
24 Oct 1917: we have seen a letter sent to one of our staff by an officer in the York and Lancaster Regiment in which he says Mr Marcroft was killed on the 10th October. He was on the front of the Battle and was wounded in the thigh by a shell, and died half an hour afterwards
