1914: enlisted. Trained at Luton, Bishops Stortford, Saffron WaldenFeb 1915: landed in France. Took part in Battle of Neuve Chapelle
Apr 1915: attached to General Stuart Wortley, employed sketching British and German positions and plans of trenches
Jul 1915: wounded in back, thigh, groin and ankle - sustained fractured pelvis. Invalided home to Queen Mary's Hospital, Whalley
Oct 1915: drafted to 70th Provisional Battalion (Newcastle on Tyne)
Feb 1916: sent for at War Office and offered an Active Service Commission. Medical Officer refuses to pass on account of effect of wounds
