Nov 1915: joined 10th Battalion Royal Fusiliers. After short home training sent to France.Jul 1916: took part in Somme advance. Employed as runner between the lines. Fell in shell hole. Both knee caps put out of place. Eventually invalided home now in 6th Battalion Royal Fusiliers. Classed CIII B179. Fit for clerical work only. Send to Royal Engineers Command Depot, Thetford
