Apr 1916: commenced training as a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery at Fulwood Barracks, PrestonJul 1916: transferred to new 4.5 Howitzer Brigade and went to Ewshott (Near Aldershot) to join Division there
Sep 1916: transferred to 18 pounder Battery as a Signaller and went to Aylsham, Norfolk
Dec 1916: transferred to 5in Howitzer Battery and went to Hook, Hampshire to form new division
Mar 1917: Battery received new 4in Howitzers and went to Colchester, Essex to complete training
Jul 1917: tried "Gunnery Course" at Larkhill, Salisbury
Mar 1918: left Colchester via Southampton for Belgium
May 1918: attached Royal Horse Artillery in France as a Signaller
Jul 1918: left Rouen for England, sick - sent to Taplow, Buckinghamshire
