Sep 1914: joined the 2nd City of London Royal Fusiliers
Dec 1914: left for Malta to complete training and thence to Egypt. From there his Regiment was sent to take part in the Gallipoli campaign. He was among the last to leave there at the evacuation. They returned to Egypt then were sent to France about May or June 1916
Jul 1916: in action in France and was wounded
Sep 1916-Oct 1916: back in England in hospital
Dec 1916: returned to France again
