History while in the forces
June to April 1917: training at Hazeley Down, Winchester Wimbledon and Caterham Camps. 1918: proceeded to France on active service, joined 8th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment and served on Ypres sector as Lewis Runner for barracks29 May 1918: moved near to Rheims and in the retreats from there. Wounded, flesh wound, bullet through the right thigh. Hospital Bar le Duc and Rouon.
June 1918: convalescent at Trouville.
July 1918: joined 12th Gloucesters, active service at Morville August as Company Runner. Great Push starting from Doulons and on to Maubeuge (Nov 10) October 12th Gloucesters disbanded, posted to 1st Royal West Kents, acted as Brigade Runner til Armistice
December 1918: stationed near Le Quesnoy, marched to Herbignies near Narnur
February 1919: demobilised
