History while in the forces
06 Feb 1917: after training with the Artists Rifle Corps, Rn. J.S. Hill applied for a Commission and was gazetted Second Lieutenant a few days ago in the Royal Garrison Artillery Special Reserve. He is now with a draft at Hilsea, Portsmouth, and expects to go to the front shortly15 Feb 1917: posted to 14th Battery, 3A, Reserve Brigade. Stationed at Cosham Hutments, Hampshire
Wounded. Was awarded Military Cross
05 Dec 1918: was badly wounded and in hospital for some months. He has now recovered and employed at Birmingham on Army work.
