History while in the forces
Went to Roffey Camp, Horsham, Sussex then sent to Whitley Bay. Crossed to France after short training, is very well and likes his workJan 1917: sent form of application for a Commission for signature. It being understood the application was more or less the O/C's desire. Promoted to Corporal
13 Apr 1917: killed in action. Was looking after some food for men and shell exploded at cookhouse. Death was instantaneous. O/C speaks very highly of him as a man and soldier. He was an excellent and reliable clerk.
