History while in the forces
01 Feb 1917: Mr James Fingland joined the Public School Corps, 29th Battalion Royal Fusiliers. Promoted to Sergeant. For some months past he has been in training for a Commission and I believe at the present time he is in the No. 3 Cadet Officers Battalion, Bristol. I have not heard from him since June 191611 Feb 1917: at the end of January he was granted a Commission in the 6th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps
11 Apr 1917: letter from him stating attached to "C" Company 18th Battalion King's Royal Rifles Corps (France)
01 Jul 1918: he was gassed invalided home with Dysentery in January 1918. He has not been abroad again. I have not heard from him lately but his father wrote me a few days ago stating he was suffering with his eyes from the effects of being gassed.
