Entered Bank's service as a messenger, whilst a Reserve in the Seaforth Highlanders05 Aug 1914; ordered to rejoin this Regiment (Seaforth Highlanders)
21 Aug 1914: landed at Ostend
23 Aug 1914: wounded/taken prisoner. Sent to Doeberritz Prisoners Camp where his health broke down, rheumatic etc.
1916: transferred to Switzerland
15 Sep 1917: transferred from Switzerland to England. Arrived Huddersfield on 15 Sep 1917 three months' furlough granted him by Army Authorities as he is suffering from rheumatism owing to his treatment whilst a prisoner
27 Oct 1917: admitted to Royds Hall Military Hospital, Huddersfield
05 Nov 1917: transferred to Harrogate War Hospital for treatment
