History while in the forces
25 Jul 1917: joined Royal Naval Air Service (now Royal Air Force) trained at Crystal Palace, London15 Sep 1917: embarked for France as A.C.II rating. Stationed at Dunkirk on active service in this area for 15 months and afterwards at Ghistelles.
Dec 1917: promoted from A.C.2 to A.C.1. On transfer to Royal Air Force rated as 1st Class Private promoted 2nd Class Clerk Apr 1918 and 1st Class Sep 1918. Would have retired with Non-Commissioned Officer rank but for his recent early demobilisation.
07 Jan 1919: demobilised. Medals to follow
