History while in the forces

Jul 1916-Apr 1917: enlisted in Royal Garrison Artillery, sent for training to Plymouth and subsequently to Queenstown Harbour, and then Bexhill.
May 1917: proceeded to France. Posted to 216 Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery
09 Sep 1917-Sep 1918: promoted Corporal. Saw much fighting at attack on Lens Aug 1917, and Cambrai Nov 1917, and subsequent retreat. German push (Mar 1918) and recent British attacks.
05 Sep 1918: returned to this Country, having been recommended for a Commission in the Royal Garrison Artillery and is proceeding to Brighton for training
15 Nov 1918: in consequence of Armistice, no more Commissions granted
16 Jan 1919: demobilised
27 Jan 1919: recommenced work at Bennetts Hill branch
