The decorative inscription reads: 'Presented to Richard Richards Esquire, Joint General Manager, London Joint City and Midland Bank Limited, by past and present members of the staff of Cardiff Docks Branch as a token of esteem and in appreciation of those qualities of business ability, unfailing courtesy and kindly consideration which he displayed in a marked degree during the period he was Manager of the Branch from its inception in 1893 until his appointment as Joint General Manager in 1918'.
