About this collection
Maxwell Haymes joined HSBC in 1928, training at the London office before travelling to Bangkok in 1931 for his first overseas post. He gained valuable experience in Hong Kong, Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and Singapore, before being promoted to the role of branch manager in Malaya (Malaysia) in 1954. However, this career progression was punctured by Max’s internment during the Second World War. Explore our archives to reveal a wartime experience of frontline action, resilience and love.
