About this collection

Rugby is in HSBC's DNA. The first bank team was set-up as early as 1884. Enthusiasm and aptitude for the game were seen as solid credentials for a young banker looking to join the organisation. These photographs show London office line-ups from the 1880s to the 1980s. We still enjoy strong links with the game through our sponsorship of the Rugby World Cup Sevens.
