This handsome building was completed in 1872 as a Club for members of the German Community, which includes between three and four hundred residents. Messrs. Wilson & Salway were the architects, and the general finish displayed in the arrangements and fittings has elicited considerable praise. The East verandah of the China Mail Office is visible on the right of the picture'.
