Proposals to reorganise the group under a new holdings company, HSBC Holdings plc, were announced in December 1990. Shareholders approved the proposals in February 1991. When this report was published in March 1991, the bank was still waiting on approvals for HSBC Holdings plc to become the group's ultimate holding company. From 1991 onwards there are separate reports for The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and HSBC Holdings plc.
