The card industry was expanding rapidly at this time. In 1972, Midland Banks, Inc. would announce the formation of a new wholly-owned subsidiary to centralise all of its card activities. Marine Midland Consumer Credit Corporation's responsibilities included: overseeing credit authorisations to merchants; embossing of charge cards; clearance of merchants' paper; and mailing of statements to cardholders.
