About this collection
HSBC’s first recorded act of philanthropy was a HKD1,000 donation to the China Famine Fund in 1878. In the decades that followed, there were contributions to hospitals, flood relief efforts, refugee funds and many other causes. In 1981, we established The Hongkong Bank Foundation to co-ordinate extensive community programmes in Hong Kong. It has supported over 10,000 projects and has grown to become one of the largest charitable foundations in Hong Kong’s business community. In celebration of the 40th anniversary, HSBC is making a special donation of HKD140 million to 10 community initiatives. Travel back in time to see some of the projects supported in the early days of the foundation.
