About this collection

This beautiful tapestry was gifted by the local business community to our Chief Manager Thomas Jackson when he retired from Hong Kong in 1902. It embodies our integral importance to the prosperity of the region. A legendary figure in our history, Thomas was highly respected and popular, and nicknamed ‘Lucky’ Jackson for twice pulling HSBC back from the brink of financial disaster. His statue is still watching over us today from Hong Kong’s Statue Square.
