Photograph of Honam Island, with boats moored in the river. The caption reads: 'Honam, from Fati. The river side of Honam, which island lies at the junction of the "Macao [Macau] Passage" with the main stream of the Pearl River, and opposite to the South face of Canton City, was a long time occupied by the foreigners whom the destruction of the old factories had obliged to seek other quarters. At the present moment a few only reside there. Many of the tradesmen best known to foreigners, however, have their establishments in this locality. The decayed look of the houses abutting on the river seldom fails to impress visitors, who will, however, if in search of shops, find an hour's walk through its principal thoroughfares of interest'.
