Photograph of Macau, with a caption that reads: 'Macao, looking towards the Inner Harbour. The Monte Fort, which occupies the eminence on the extreme left of this view, is the largest and most important of the fortifications of the peninsula. It is square in shape and mounts 48 guns of small caliber and dates its origin as far back as 1626. Some curious old cannon cast in that year form a part of its armament. The generally neat appearance of the city (known to the Portuguese as "The City of the Holy Name of God") is faithfully shewn in the photograph'.
