In 2015, we announced plans to build a new, state-of-the-art head office for HSBC UK in Birmingham. Antonio Simoes, CEO of HSBC Bank plc and Europe, explained the city’s ongoing revitalisation made it an ‘attractive destination for businesses and our people’. He also emphasised our deep ‘cultural connection’ to the city. HSBC UK had been founded there in 1836 when the region was powering the industrial revolution. The ambitious construction project – with sustainability at its heart – culminated with the official opening of 1 Centenary Square on 3 December 2018.
