Photograph of the Parade Ground, with a caption that reads: 'The Hongkong Parade Ground, Looking North. The Eastern Wing of the City Hall on one side and the quarters for married soldiers on the other, from the boundaries of the lower Parade and Cricket Ground, Queen's Road separating it from the upper, or South, half. H.M. Ships Princess Charlotte and Meeanee are visible in the harbour, to which the hills of British Kowloon, backed by yet higher ones of the Sunon district, form a fine background. The Praya edge of the lower Praya Ground was by Governor Sir R. G. MacDonnell converted into a promenade open to pedestrians only and great pains were taken in planting it with suitable trees. It is not however much used by those for whose benefit it was intended'.
