Photograph of St John's Cathedral, with a caption that reads: 'St John's Cathedral, North Front. The view here given is taken from the courtyard of Messrs Augustine Heard & Co's premises abutting on the Parade Ground, and shews the building to advantage. The new Chancel was added in 1872, and has rendered the somewhat small "Cathedral" more worthy of the name. The building is of brick, with granite foundations, the interior being plainly but neatly finished. It contains a very fine organ (built by Bryceson & Co of London) of 28 stops on three manuals and pedals with a total of 1,260 pipes. The instrument was thoroughly repaired in 1867 and moved from the Gallery to the North East Chapel'.
