Pamphlet containing the address that Charles Diefendorf delivered, as the guest of honour, at the Niagara Dinner of The Newcomen Society held in Buffalo, USA on 28 December 1950. Diefendorf, a member of the society, had been invited to speak on the occasion of the bank's centenary. The talk starts with a fairly detailed introduction on the life and career of Charles Diefendorf, provided by Henry Wendt of the society. It notes that he was first employed by Marine as a bank messenger in 1907. Diefendorf begins his address with an overview of Buffalo, and developments in the wider world, in the years building up to 1850. He covers the bank's founders. He then describes the bank's development under the watch of various presidents up to, and including, George Rand, Jr's formation of Marine Midland Corporation. The pamphlet contains a number of illustrations, including a family tree diagram to show the bank's numerous acquisitions. It ends with some key quotes from the talk, and brief information on The Newcomen Society. Some sections of Diefendorf's address are duplicated in the brochure titled ''The Mariners Log. Men and times of the Marine' (US 0339-1943-0002).
