Photograph of a silhouette image of William Blow Collis, a cloth merchant from Stourbridge, UK

Back to Records relating to bank forma …
Photograph of a silhouette image of William Blow Collis from an original daguerreotype. Collis has often been connected to the founding of private bank Bate and Robins in Stourbridge, UK. He is said to have started offering a banking service in about 1762 which - through family marriage ties - later developed into Bate and Robins (or the 'Stourbridge Old Bank'). Other evidence suggests the bank got started in the 1790s, and the only connection to Collis is that his former cloth shop was taken over as premises for the bank.
