The dinner celebrated City Bank's merger with Midland in 1898. Midland changed its name to London City and Midland Bank as a result of the deal. The cover, by illustrator Herbert Granville Fell, includes a lady in a boat, representing commerce. She raises a toast to a standing figure, representing banking.
