Photograph of Canton (Guangzhou), showing the original Haizhu Island (or Haizhu Stone) in the Pearl River. It is connected to the embankment by a pontoon bridge, set between rows of Tanka boats. The island was incorporated into the main embankment following land reclamation in the 1930s.
