Photograph of part of the harbour, with a caption that reads: 'Macao Inner Harbour, from View 40 [Patera - HK HSBCPH 0140-0006-0027-0040] to Barra Fort. The fort on the right, which lies at the seaward extremity of the peninsula, and known as that of the San Thiaga da Barra [Sao Tiago da Barra], or Bar Fort, commands the entrance to the inner harbour. It was built in 1740 and mounts 8 guns. The fortress of Bomparto (on the Penha Hill) is seen to the left of the centre of the picture. Numerous legends are attached to most of the Macao forts, some being of a highly interesting nature'.
