Photograph of the tapestry under construction. The tapestry, part finished, is attached to a loom, which is in turn stretched by heavy metal chains and pulleys to a wooden beam running along the side of the room. It was designed to fill the vast board room that had been designed by architect Edwin Lutyens. At the time it was the largest piece of needlepoint tapestry ever produced in the UK.
